Program Description

The Certificate in Automotive Service Technician Studies at Dorset College is an 8-month program that consists of specially designed courses in automotive science, technical communications, English interactions, and oral English. This program has been approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

This certificate program enables international students to:

  • Strengthen their written and oral English skills;
  • Learn basic automotive technical knowledge and mechanical reasoning skills;
  • Become familiar with western academic style and culture.

Program Length

8 months

Program Requirements

High school diploma. Students are asked to provide one of the following:

  1. Two years of education in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
    1. English 12 (50%) or
    2. Communications 12 (67%) or
  2. IELTS Minimum overall band test score of 5.5
  3. TOEFL
    1. Minimum score 70 (internet based)
    2. Minimum score 193 (computer based)
    3. Minimum score 523 (paper based)
  4. Successfully complete (85%) of the Dorset College Academic Preparation Program
  5. Sufficient score (70%) on the Dorset College English Proficiency Examination
  6. Successfully complete (70%) of Dorset College ENGL 099 (University English Skills III) course
  7. Versant English Placement Test – Minimum score of 46
  8. Duolingo English Test - Minimum score of 85
