About Cape Breton University (CBU)

CBU is one of the public universities in Canada. In the 2006 MacLean's University Graduate Satisfaction Survey, CBU is nationally ranked #1 in "Entire Educational Experience" and "Teaching & Instruction".

Located on Canada's stunning East Coast, CBU makes its home in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, the largest urban center on Cape Breton Island. Preparation for Graduate School Applicants Program

This Program is intended for international students who have already completed an undergraduate degree in their home country and are now planning to do a Master's degree in Canada or the United States. This program provides students with an opportunity to improve their English skills while preparing students for entrance into a graduate program at a North American university.

Upon completion of this program, students may:

  • Apply for admission to the Master's of Business Administration (MBA in CED) at Cape Breton University, a Canadian public university. Dorset College has a collaboration agreement with CBU and CBU recognizes Dorset's Preparation for Graduate School program as equivalent to CBU's own Pre-MBA program.

Alternatively, students may apply to universities across Canada and the United States provided that students successfully complete the required TOEFL / GMAT / GRE examinations and also satisfy all entrance requirements for individual universities.

 

Admission Requirements

Academic: Students must hold a Bachelor's degree

English:
Students must achieve one of the following:

• Successful completion (65%) of the Dorset College Academic Preparation
Program
• Sufficient score (50%) on the Dorset College English Proficiency Exam

Upon arrival, students will write an English level placement test. In the event that a student does not meet the necessary English requirements for this Program, he/she will be placed in the Academic Preparation Program. Once the student has an appropriate level of English fluency, he/she may reapply to this program. This program may be completed in 2 terms (8 months).

Transfer Requirements

Upon completion of the program, qualified students may apply for admission to the MBA program at CBU once they meet the following requirements:

  1. Completion of Dorset program with minimum of 70% GPA. CBU accepts that as proof of English language proficiency.

  2. Applicants with the equivalent of two years' work experience are preferred.

  3. Applicants fulfill the standard CBU application requirements, including a satisfactory score on GMAT, a B average in their Bachelor degree program, an essay, and three letters of reference.
